Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses.
The Mission
Our People Team exists to build Relay into a company high-performing, ambitious people actively choose and a place where they do career-defining work.
We’re hiring a People Operations Specialist to strengthen and scale the operational foundation that makes that possible.
This role ensures our systems are organized, our data is accurate, our processes are clear, and our employee experience runs smoothly. You care deeply about precision, structure, and continuous improvement, and you understand that operational excellence directly enables performance.
If you love building clean systems, improving workflows, and bringing order to complexity, this role will feel energizing.
What You'll Be Doing
The primary areas of ownership in this role include, but are not limited to:
People Systems & Infrastructure
Own and continuously improve our HRIS, People team tooling, and ticketing systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and scalability.
Maintain a clean, intuitive, and structured Google Drive and documentation ecosystem.
Identify workflow inefficiencies and proactively redesign processes to reduce friction and increase clarity.
Data, Reporting & AI Leverage
Maintain high-quality employee data and ensure integrity across systems.
Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reporting on headcount, retention, engagement, and other key People metrics.
Use data to surface inconsistencies, risks, and trends before they become problems.
Leverage AI tools thoughtfully to streamline reporting, analyze survey and employee data, automate recurring workflows, and improve operational efficiency.
Employee Lifecycle & Experience
Contribute to coordination and communication of onboarding processes to ensure new hires are set up for success from before day one.
Aid in supporting documentation requests for immigration processes in partnership with BPs and external vendors.
Manage employee changes, associated documentation, and workflows with precision and timeliness.
Serve as a reliable point of contact for employee questions, ensuring thoughtful and efficient resolution.
Program & Operational Coordination
Coordinate and operationalize key People programs including onboarding, immigration, promotion letters, compensation updates, and vendor RFPs.
Prepare ad hoc analyses and reporting for board materials and executive updates in partnership with People leadership.
Provide structured coordination and operational support to the People leadership team, ensuring timelines, documentation, and follow-through are organized and tight.
Take full ownership of recurring operational rhythms, audits, and deadlines while balancing multiple priorities with strong organization and follow-through.
Who You Are
You’re a strong fit for this role if the following are true:
You have 4+ years of experience in People Operations.
You are highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to data accuracy and documentation quality.
You’re comfortable working in spreadsheets, dashboards, and reporting tools, and you enjoy turning raw data into clarity.
You proactively identify inefficiencies and take ownership of improving systems and workflows without waiting to be asked.
You are confident in managing multiple streams of work at once while maintaining precision and follow-through.
You anticipate needs before they’re voiced and prepare accordingly.
You are comfortable using AI tools to increase efficiency, improve reporting, and streamline operational work.
You have a bias toward experimentation and aren’t afraid to challenge legacy processes when the data suggests there’s a better way.
You care deeply about employee experience and understand that operational quality directly shapes how people experience work.
You’re comfortable partnering with senior stakeholders and preparing structured materials or reporting when needed.
What this role isn’t:
This isn’t a reactive task-processing role. We’re looking for someone who proactively owns systems and improves them.
This isn’t a default stepping stone to a People Business Partner role. While career mobility is possible, People Operations is a distinct craft with its own depth and growth path.
This isn’t a role for someone who avoids structure, data, coordination or detailed work. Precision and organization are foundational here.

Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You
You push relentlessly for reinvention: You’re built to constantly ask, “How can this be better?” Change excites you and you drive it.
You crave autonomy: We trust our team with big challenges and the freedom to solve them. If you’re someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you’ll find the freedom here empowering.
You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.
You treat comfort as a red flag: You seek growth. When things feel too comfortable, you lean into change. You’re excited about stepping into the unknown and navigating new terrain to create something better alongside your team.
You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition and you let your work speak for itself.
You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook. You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward.
You seek out feedback: We value directness, clarity, and respect. We believe honesty fuels great work and career growth. You see feedback as a tool for learning and improvement, and you know that open, honest dialogue is key to achieving the best results — together.
You’re here for more than a job: At Relay, everything we do is in service of our mission to help small businesses thrive. To drive impact and have purpose here, that mission must matter to you too.
