About the position
We’re growing and looking to add a Controller to our team! Reporting to the President, the Controller will play a critical role in managing the financial health of EGATE. This position requires a seasoned professional with at least 5 years of experience in financial management. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing all financial operations at EGATE. This includes ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, managing accounting functions, budgeting, forecasting, and supporting strategic financial decisions. The Controller will play a key role in optimizing the company's financial performance and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role is hybrid, 3 days onsite at our North York office.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee all financial operations
- Prepare, analyze, and present consolidated financial statements for all entities.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Provide detailed analysis and commentary on financial performance.
Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor company cash flow, manage working capital, and prepare cash flow forecasts to ensure financial stability.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage budgets across all companies, providing variance analysis and actionable insights.
- Lead financial forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts. Analyze financial trends to guide business planning.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and integrity of financial data.

Cost Analysis:
- Perform cost analysis and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in transportation operations.
- Provides variance analysis, modeling, and other reports as required to analyze, track, and identify financial results and gaps, along with actionable insights and recommendations.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff across all business entities.
- Collaborate with operational leaders to align financial strategies with business goals.
- Supervise and mentor accounting team members, ensuring proper training, performance, and development.
- Manage the relationships with external accounting firms.
Audit & Taxation:
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage year-end audit processes.
- Oversee tax planning, compliance, and reporting for all entities.
- Oversee tax reporting and ensure timely and accurate filing of federal and provincial taxes.
- Coordinate annual audits and assist external auditors in completing audits efficiently and on time.
Accounting Operations:
- Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of all accounts.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up to date on industry regulations and compliance standards, ensuring the company’s financial operations remain compliant.
Financial Strategy:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute long-term financial strategies that align with business goals.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
- Leverage technology to streamline accounting operations and reporting.
- Lead the financial planning and analysis function to drive business performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 1 year in a leadership role with people management.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and practices.
- Proven track record in managing month-end and year-end closing processes.
- In-depth understanding of audit and tax processes.
- Expertise in project accounting and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical, forecasting, and budgeting skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in the IT industry is a strong asset.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- CPA designation would be an asset, but not required.
