About the role:
Clutch transacts nearly $200 million in vehicle purchases and sales every month through our acquisition and retail channels. To keep scaling as a best-in-class operator, we must accurately predict reconditioning costs, future sale prices, and time-to-sell for every vehicle make and model across our operating markets.
Clutch is seeking a strategic, analytical Director of Pricing to build and lead a high-performing pricing team while driving pricing strategy and execution for the Sell to Clutch and Vehicle Markets Group. This high-impact role will be responsible for pricing across our acquisition and retail channels to boost profitability, customer conversion, and operational efficiency. You will partner closely with our Data Engineering team to ensure robust data pipelines and analytics power every pricing decision. You’ll work in a data-rich environment—managing pricing and conversion across 10,000+ new offers each week and a weekly-refreshed database of 250,000+ customer offers with current market valuations—and use those insights to design pricing frameworks, reporting structures, and disposition strategies that move company performance and competitiveness.
What you’ll do:
- Price Optimization Strategy: Develop and continuously refine pricing algorithms and offer-optimization tactics to maximize conversion rates across high-volume acquisition and retail channels.
- Build & Lead Pricing Team: Hire, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team of pricing analysts and data scientists, fostering a culture of analytical rigor, experimentation, and rapid iteration.
- Acquisition & Retail Pricing Matrix: Design and maintain a pricing matrix that accounts for forecasted spread, expected days to sell, reconditioning costs, and predicted margin to maximize profitability at both acquisition and retail stages.
- Executive Reporting: Produce and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly pricing performance dashboards and insights to executive leadership.
- Inventory Mix & Capital Exposure: Recommend optimal inventory composition and dollar exposure levels to balance risk, liquidity, and sales velocity.
- Vehicle Disposition Strategy: Create and oversee a robust disposition framework—wholesale, retail, and export—to ensure each vehicle is routed through the most profitable channel.
We’re looking for:
- 5+ years in quantitative trading, market-making, or algorithmic research—ideally on a trading desk or at a quant hedge fund.
- Demonstrated expertise in forecasting, margin modeling, and pricing-elasticity analysis.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-caliber analytical teams.
- Strong command of Excel, SQL, and data-visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills for executive-level audiences.
Why you’ll love it at Clutch:
- Direct ownership over pricing strategy in a high-growth, technology-driven vehicle marketplace
- Opportunity to build and lead a pivotal team from the ground up
- Collaborative culture focused on innovation, impact, and accountability
- Competitive compensation!
- Generous time off program
- Health & dental benefits
