Who you are:
We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer who will design, write, and test C, and embedded RTOS firmware systems, as well as contribute to the design and testing of embedded hardware using HIL and SIL methodology. The projects will vary in scope, complexity, and affected business area. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
What you'll do:
As a Senior Embedded Engineer, your key area of responsibility will be designing and implementing firmware of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment. You will be responsible for the implementation of the project tasks, as well as managing day-to-day activities. You will also need to provide regular status reports to key partners to ensure the project is on time and meeting expectations. You will need to work closely with other embedded developers, engineers, and internal technical teams to determine the architecture and constraints of the project.
To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative professional with strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and technical skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage firmware development through completion. The successful candidate will also be able to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.
How you'll make an impact:
-
Perform firmware development, including architectural input, in the required area of expertise (modem, GPS, vehicle data, security, etc) using C and other standards required by the RTOS and as per Geotab’s development standards.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the Geotab IoT devices (such as GOAnywhere, extensible product, asset trackers) firmware and how various modules work.
-
Write unit tests and perform integration and system-level testing in both real and simulated vehicles, to demonstrate that new features meet design requirements.
-
Conduct comprehensive testing and code reviews to ensure that industry coding standards are followed.
-
Debug firmware issues and identify areas for code improvements.
-
Keep up-to-date documentation for all areas of responsibility.
What you'll bring to the role:
- 8 - 10 years of required previous experience in embedded firmware and hardware (system) development and wireless (cellular, BT, etc) products.
-
Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Software Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
Advanced knowledge of Microcontroller Design, firmware build-chains, build systems, and CI/CD methods for product maintenance.
-
Proficiency in C, Python, and familiarity with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns common to resource-constrained embedded systems.
-
Ability to read schematics and data sheets, with an understanding of underlying electronics for firmware debugging.
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document complex technical systems and decisions.
-
Experience with Rust and GO is highly beneficial.
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
