Geotab is seeking a Senior Cloud Automation Engineer who will be responsible for managing and monitoring the performance of the server infrastructure on the public cloud—specifically Google Compute Engine—as part of the Cloud Automation team. What you’ll do:
As a Senior Cloud Automation Engineer, your key area of responsibility will be creating automated infrastructure management systems, written primarily in Python and Powershell, while overseeing complex Cloud Automation/DevOps projects. You will be responsible for the implementation of the project tasks, such as designing and building software to maintain IaaS solutions, as well as managing day-to-day activities like system-level tuning and debugging. You will also need to provide regular status reports to key partners to ensure the project is on time and meeting expectations. You will need to work closely with internal technical teams, such as Software, Engineering Support, and Database Administration, as well as collaborate in a cross-functional team with senior engineers.
To be successful in this role you will be a strong team-player with strong written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and project management skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through completion. The successful candidate will also be able to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Design and build software to deploy, configure, and maintain IaaS solutions for internal and customer-facing applications.
- Build out automation tools and work with public cloud APIs to enhance infrastructure efficiency.
- Review Cloud Automation/DevOps monitoring tools and develop rapid detection and response systems.
- Perform system-level tuning and debugging in public cloud or containerized environments.
- Create and maintain documentation regarding configuration, processes, and security while contributing to the departmental WIKI.
- Utilize Big Data tools for large-scale log collection, analysis, and dashboard creation.
What you’ll bring to this role:
- 5+ years of experience in software development.
- Specialized expertise in programming languages (Python, C#, or Java) and scripting languages (Powershell or Bash).
- Proven experience with cloud computing platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Working knowledge of databases, SQL, and Big Data tools; experience with Postgres or Google BigQuery is a strong asset.
- Highly organized self-starter able to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the flexibility to adapt to growing technology and market demands.
- Professional certifications such as Google Cloud Certified, Professional Cloud Architect, or AWS Certified are considered an asset.
