ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a highly technical Senior Accountant to help scale our accounting function. This role will own core accounting operations while also supporting multi-entity consolidations, complex revenue recognition, cross-border tax coordination, and audit readiness.
You will work closely with the VP Finance to ensure Spellbook’s financial reporting infrastructure can support a high-growth global SaaS business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting problems, building scalable processes, and operating in a fast-moving startup environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Close & Reporting
Own key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
Prepare and review general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements across multiple entities
Maintain accounting records in accordance with ASPE / GAAP and internal accounting policies
Improve close efficiency with a target of monthly financial statements prepared within 10 business days
Multi-Entity Accounting & Consolidation
Manage accounting for multiple legal entities across jurisdictions (Canada, US, and future international entities)
Prepare intercompany entries, eliminations, and consolidation adjustments
Maintain documentation and processes supporting transfer pricing and intercompany transactions
Assist with foreign currency accounting and entity-level financial reporting
Revenue Recognition
Support accounting for complex SaaS revenue arrangements, including:
Ensure revenue recognition aligns with relevant accounting standards and internal policy
Work closely with Sales and RevOps to ensure contracts are structured and recorded correctly
Audit & Compliance
Support annual financial statement audits, including preparation of audit schedules and working papers
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders
Ensure compliance with corporate tax filings, indirect taxes, and regulatory requirements
Help maintain strong internal controls and documentation
Tax & Cross-Border Coordination
Assist with Canadian and US corporate tax compliance
Coordinate with external advisors on international tax, sales tax, and transfer pricing
Support documentation and accounting treatment for cross-border transactions
Process & Systems
Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting processes
Build scalable documentation and accounting policies
Partner with finance and operations teams to improve data integrity across financial systems
Other responsibilities as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA designation strongly preferred
4–7 years of accounting experience, including public accounting or high-growth tech companies
Strong understanding of:
financial reporting
revenue recognition
consolidations
intercompany accounting
Experience supporting financial statement audits
Familiarity with multi-entity or international accounting environments
Advanced Excel / financial modeling skills
Experience with accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.)

Our Compensation Philosophy
Spellbook uses industry benchmark data to establish compensation bands for all roles. The salary range listed for a position reflects the expected total wage range for the role—including base salary and on-target commissions, where applicable—and may span multiple career levels. Final compensation is determined during the interview process based on factors such as experience, skills, scope, and role level. In addition to base salary and applicable commissions, total rewards may include equity, health and wellness benefits, and other company programs.
