The Senior Principal Full Stack Engineer is a strategic technical leader who owns the technology roadmap and architectural vision for specific systems within a mission or track across multiple squads. In this role, you will define the end-to-end architecture of our digital investing platforms, bridging the gap between complex backend services and high-performance user interfaces.
You will leverage your expert knowledge of NodeJS and Angular to guide the design of distributed systems, ensuring scalability, security, and seamless data flow. Moving beyond day-to-day coding, you will focus on high-level solutioning, acting as a "Technology Champion" who assesses new technologies to benefit multiple teams and translates technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders. You will drive vision execution by creating technical requirements and documentation that turn high-level strategy into reality.

- Define and drive the technology roadmap for end-to-end systems across products or systems. Collaborate with enterprise architects and technical leads to design software solutions, including technology selection, technical direction, and estimation, ensuring alignment between frontend experiences and backend capabilities.
- Lead the solution architecture for highly complex, distributed, and cloud-native systems. Play an active role in creating and governing standards around Scalability, Security, Logging, Auditing, Policy Management, and Performance Monitoring. Define KPIs for end-to-end process execution to ensure system health and reliability.
- Focus on guiding the implementation of Web applications, APIs, and Microservices using multiple languages and best cloud-native practices. Ensure consistency of design elements within individual components, services, and modules across applications.
- Identify, analyze, and design integration flows, technically owning the process to ensure on-time and on-budget build and integration of solution elements. Work on the translation of business requirements into specific solutions, application designs, and process implementations.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders on providing the best solution. Ensure technical decisions align with product vision and user experience requirements.
- Troubleshoot and optimize solutions for highly complex issues across the entire stack. Architect robust solutions for real-time data streaming, database query performance, API latency, and client-side rendering.
- Define complex test plans for the entire system, including unit, integration, contract testing, and load testing. Ensure the delivery of exceptional quality solutioning that meets highly complex business requirements.
- Serve as a technical reference by providing guidance on cutting-edge technology. Mentor team members on full stack topics, provide technical ability screening for new team members, and support the growth of the engineering team.
- Translate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders and work on the development of proposals and presentations. Facilitate productive conversations between different technical teams (e.g., DevOps, Security, Product) to solve issues and enable new architectures.
- Pursue continuous learning regarding new technology and assess it for use within Questrade. Champion the adoption of AI best practices, work on technical POCs to prove out technology, and lead the selection process for new tools.

- BS or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of designing and scaling highly complex full stack applications.
- Expert-level mastery of NodeJS and server-side TypeScript. Strong experience with common libraries and frameworks such as ExpressJS, NestJS, and Fastify. Deep understanding of Microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Expert knowledge of React Native for mobile and strong experience with Angular for web. Proficient with HTML, SCSS, and modern frontend build tools.
- Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases. Good experience with major Cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and cloud-native best practices.
- Experience defining comprehensive test strategies (Unit, Integration, E2E, Performance) and quality assurance tools. Familiarity with integration design patterns and best practices.
- Proven experience leading the technical direction for a portfolio of products. Ability to propel vision delivery through documentation, technical proposals, and architectural design.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills. Ability to interact with all levels of stakeholders, support personnel, and clients.
- Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot highly complex issues.
