We’re looking for our next Supervisor, U.S. Tax Reporting. Could It Be You?
Questrade Inc., has multiple client tax reporting obligations to various tax regulators, including the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Ministère du Revenu du Québec (MRQ) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In addition, there are also regulatory obligations to obtain sufficient documentation from the client to identify their tax residency. Based on tax residency, withholding tax obligations must be met.
The purpose of the Supervisor, U.S. Tax Reporting is to plan and monitor the daily activities within the Tax Reporting team, ensuring timeliness and accuracy are consistently achieved, with a positive customer experience front and center. Additionally, the individual assists the Senior Manager, Tax Reporting to scope project requirements, process documentation and change, and conduct user acceptance testing for system changes
The individual is expected to be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Canadian &/or US taxation, and act as the central point for client issues. In addition, the individual is expected to review processes and documentation that affects client tax reporting and cost basis to ensure applicability, completeness and accuracy, with a continuous improvement mindset, keeping a positive client experience front and center.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Tax Reporting

Leads and monitors periodic and ad-hoc activities that lead to successful Canadian & US client tax reporting

General Knowledge in preparing all or some of the following tax slips: T5, T3, T5013, NR4, T5008, T1135, 1099, 1042S, Realized Gain/Loss report, and/or K-1

Prepare and monitoring XML filings
-
Leads and monitor tax season project plan, to ensure all regulatory deadlines are met or exceeded
-
Leads discussions to ensure accurate classification of securities and income for tax reporting
-
Ensures timely remittance of payments to the CRA, MRQ and/or IRS
-
Assists management as a point of contact withIRS
-
Leads and monitor daily tasks such as security and corporate action research, FX conversions, mail and email monitoring and distribution
-
Supervises the reconciliation of internal tax remittance accounts with tax accounts with each regulator
-
Conducts audits of client documentation to meet QI/FATCA/CRS requirements
-
Assists with audits
-
Manages distribution of client tax reporting related cases, and ensures timely resolution, providing recommendations for complex issue resolution and appropriate process improvements

Attends industry calls or conferences representing the firm, draft call memos and distribute to internal audience

Reviews and coaches team members on complex reorganization and entitlement events to determine taxable or non-taxable treatment

Possess deep knowledge of Complex QI end to end process

Assists with KPI reports and project status reporting

Coordinates internal resources for team, department and organization wide projects, and assists Tax Manager, Project Managers and Business Analysts to ensure flawless execution of projects

Provides oversight over applicable outside service providers and ensure all parties meet their SLA’s

Builds positive and productive relationships with internal teams and external third party service providers
-
Assists with establishing short and long term goals by gathering pertinent business, service and operational information and metrics, and subsequently identifying, evaluating and choosing a course of action, defining objectives and evaluating outcomes

Have 3+ years experience in client tax reporting, ideally within the brokerage industry
-
Have 1+ years of experience in people leadership role strongly preferred, ideally with client tax reporting
-
Have a University or post-graduate degree
-
Are considered a SME in Canadian and/or US client tax reporting and filing processes (ideally both)
-
Have deep understanding of U.S. withholding certificates (e.g., W-9s, W-8s), Qualified Intermediary requirements, and FATCA and CRS 2.0 requirements
-
Have knowledge of dividends, income processing, reorg, registered plans
-
Have experience with book of records and back-office operational systems and processes
-
Have knowledge of database queries (e.g. SQL), Microsoft Access, and advanced Excel, with the ability to work with large set of data
-
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Are detail oriented, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
-
Have a strong work ethic with a focus on achieving quality results
-
Have strong organizational and time management skills
-
Are independent, self motivated, and have the ability to motivate others to exceed expectations

Have the ability to manage competing priorities effectively, both on a personal and team level

Have completed tax related courses and/or industry designations such as CSC or CPA

Have knowledge of Broadridge BPS and Tax Form Plus systems

Compensation Information:
-
Base salary range: $85,000 - $100,000
-
The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
